Do you own a mobile phone? What about a Blackberry or similar device? Do you use email? Chances are you do. How would you feel if I suggested you did without them for a week?
Hans Geser of the University of Zurich is concerned that such devices may be making you less independent. He found that many people reach for technology to immediately quell any fears, imaginings, questions or concerns that they would normally spend time deliberating over and finding solutions for themselves.
Robert Bornstein, a psychologist at the Adelphi University in Long Island, is concerned that you may also become hooked on the devices themselves. He found that some people become “utterly disconnected, isolated and detached without them”.
Do you share these concerns? Or should we also be focusing on the positive aspects that modern technology brings to our lives?
