Are Women Happier Than Men?

Would you say that women are generally happier than men? The global marketing firm Nielsen conducted an online survey in 2008 to find out.

People from 51 countries took part in the ‘Nielsen Happiness Survey’. In 48 countries it was found that women were indeed happier than men. The three countries with ‘happier men’ were Brazil, South Africa and Vietnam.

The survey found that men’s happiness is firmly tied in with their finances, while women tend to find happiness in friendships and relationships.

Nielsen VP of Consumer Research Bruce Paul said in a statement “Because they are happier with non-economic factors, women’s happiness is more recession-proof which might explain why women around the world are happier in general than men”.

The survey also found that women are more optimistic about the future, while men are happier with their physical health.

I think it’s worth mentioning that 28,153 people took part in the survey, so it’s worth asking yourself if this is a large enough demographic to come to a concrete conclusion. How do you feel about this survey and its findings?
