FAQ’s (Provided by UK Open Learning)

How do I study by distance learning?

A. When you receive your course pack you read through your course like a book then go back to the beginning and start again. After each section there are assignments and tasks to complete which are sent to your tutor for marking.

Is there a word count?

A. No,  there is no official word count for an assignment but if you submit just a sentence or two you will fail and be asked to do it again.

Why are your courses cheaper than the large companies?

A. We do not send sales people to your house who are paid large commissions for selling a course to you that may not suit your needs.

How does distance learning work?

A. We supply the course literature and software if required which is sent all in one package and not spread over months like some providers. You will receive support from our technical department for as long as you require it, 1 week or 2 years (see  course details for further information).

Are the courses tutor supported?

A.Yes, most of the courses are fully tutor supported even though they are self study, by email and post. You can also contact student services by telephone for such things as payment queries but support is not available by telephone as all our tutors are self employed and do not work from our offices.

When can I start the course?

A.You can start the course at any time: we do not have any set enrolment dates.

Is the course work done on line or sent via the internet?

A. No, the work is done off line using your PC. All the assignments are in the course manual and can be emailed.

Will I get a qualification at the end?

A. Yes most of our courses lead to a formally recognised qualification and all the details are on the course description pages.

Will I get a job at the end of the course?

A. Our courses are designed to help you obtain employment or become self employed or just to improve your knowledge.

Can I pay by instalments?

A. Yes, You can pay by instalments by credit card or debit card over 4 – 8 months  depending on the course.

What if my chosen course is the wrong one?

Can I take more than one course at a time?

A. Yes, you can take as many as you wish and discounts are available for more than one  course.

How quickly will I receive my course materials?

A. Most of the courses go out for next day delivery if you order before 1pm.

How do I get help with my course work?

A. You can get help 7 days per week by email, or post from your dedicated tutor on most  courses.

Do I have to buy any other materials?

A. Whilst the courses are self contained it is always wise to carry out extra reading  from textbooks or the Internet to add value to your studies and keep up to date with the absolutely latest changes. However, it is not essential.

What if I decide to stop my studies do I still have to pay for the whole course?

A. Yes, we pay all the tutor fees at the start of the course so you are legally obliged to continue paying for your course if you have chosen the instalment plan.

Can you help me find a testing centre if I have to sit an exam?

A. On any courses that require an exam we will provide you with all the details you need to arrange the exams at a local centre.

How long do I have to study my course?

A. The study hours are displayed on the course descriptions on our web site.
