Email Counselling
What is email counselling?
Email counselling is an increasingly popular way of establishing a therapeutic relationship with a qualified counsellor online, from the comfort of your own home.
What are the benefits?
Email counselling is growing in popularity because:
- It is anonymous. Some people prefer anonymity for personal reasons.
- It is convenient. You can gain access to counselling when it suits you.
- It is an alternative to face-to-face therapy: You may feel more comfortable writing about your problems.
- It is time-effective: You don’t need to travel anywhere or take time off work.
- It is cost-effective: Costs for travelling, child care etc are reduced or eliminated.
- It is recordable: You will have a record of the progress you have made.
- It is confidential: The same rules of confidentiality apply (see the ‘Counselling’ tab at the top of this page).
When is it not appropriate?
- If you are under 18.
- If you are feeling suicidal.
- If you have a history of mental health issues.
- If you have an issue with drug or alcohol misuse.
If you are concerned about self harm or suicidal feelings please contact your Doctor, or alternatively you can call Samaritans (UK) in confidence on 08457 909090 or email jo@samaritans.org . Alternatively you can contact Befrienders (Worldwide) www.befrienders.org
How do I begin?
