Memory is a very tricky mental activity in which we store information and retrieve for various purposes later. We can't just imagine life without the human ability to remember things. There are many types of memory: sensory memory, working memory, short term memory, long term memory, episodic memory, semantic memory, autobiographical memory and so forth.Initial research on working memory has brought forth some useful information about memory. One outcome of such research is the serial position curve which states that when we memorise a set of words or a set of stimuli, the words in the begining and at the end are remembered better than the words in the middle. The words in the begining have just enters our long term memory and the words in the end have just entered the working memory and the words in the middle have vanished because they are neighther in the working memory nor in the long term memory. The memory of items in the working memory- the words we just heard-we remember because of recency effect. There are some people who have difficulty in remembering the first set of words also because of poor long term memory construction. Therapeutical means with or without the support of medicine can improve the formation of long term memory in many of those individuals.
