A number of today’s personality tests are based on the work of Carl Jung (1875-1961). Jung became a colleague and friend of Sigmund Freud after having met him in Vienna in 1907. Unfortunately, the two men didn’t always agree when it came to matters of theory and Freud notoriously disliked people who disagreed with him. Jung eventually went his own way and developed a school of thought which he called ‘Analytical Psychology’.
Similarly, one of the theories that I find interesting is ‘types and functions’ which Jung used to analyse the personality. Katharine Briggs and her daughter Isabel Briggs Myer found this theory so revealing of people’s personalities that they developed a test, which is still commonly used today.
